There's a New Longhorn in Town
Bandera's unofficial mascot, Oreo the Longhorn, has a new playmate. Cowboy Craig Davies is training Li'l Red to join Oreo in promoting the cowboy spirit. Li'l Red's real name is Wyatt Earp, but he was a gift to Davies from Red McCombs, who runs a herd of more than 300 longhorns on his ranch near Johnson City, hence the nickname. The two-year-old is halter broken and already under saddle. Still a growing boy, he only weighs about 1,000 lbs. In mid-March, Li'l Red won first place in the open longhorn category at the Star of Texas Fair and Rodeo in Austin.
